Henri Louis Grin was Swiss born, and came to Australia in 1875 as butler to the new governor of Western Australia, Sir William Robinson. He made his way, via New Zealand, to London, where he published sensational (and fraudulent) accounts of his 30 year ordeal as a castaway among the aborigines of Northern Australia. Under the fictitious name of Louis de Rougemont, he has a prominent place among perpetrators of literary hoaxes and imaginary voyages.
