The Life And Letters Of Lady Sarah Lennox 1745-1826. Edited by the Countess of Ilchester and Lord Stavordale. 2 vols

London, 1901. First edition
30 plates; roy. 8vos, pictorial cloth gilt, top edges gilt. Cloth slightly darkened, scattered foxing, else very good. With the Macarthur Onslow bookplates

After the death of her parents, Sarah Lennox was brought up by her sister, Lady Caroline Fox. The young Prince of Wales (later George III) wanted to marry her, but the romance was scotched by the advisers to King George II. She lived among the racy Holland House set, and wrote of the social and political events of the day. The letters to Lady Susan Fox Strangways, who had been ostracised by society after marrying a stage actor, are preceded by the memoirs of Henry Fox (Lord Holland), and Mr Henry Napier. Important first-hand source of information of the times
